Biosistemak hosts the JACARDI Executive Board meeting
The meeting, held on 28 and 29 April, focused on defining JACARDI’s European roadmap for tackling cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
On 28 and 29 April, the Institute hosted the in-person meeting of the Executive Board of JACARDI (Joint Action on Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes), a European joint action aimed at reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in the European Union. The meeting brought together the project’s key strategic leaders in Bilbao at a crucial juncture marked by the definition of the Joint Action’s legacy, its sustainability and possible continuation beyond 2027.
Under the title “From evidence to impact: defining the legacy of JACARDI”, the meeting aimed to move towards a common vision that would consolidate the results achieved, strengthen the consortium’s joint political voice and maximise the scientific and social impact of the work carried out over recent years.
A key forum for strategic decision-making
The Executive Board meeting was conceived as a forum for strategic reflection and shared decision-making. Over the course of the two days, fundamental issues for the future of JACARDI were addressed, such as the definition of common policy messages, the alignment of scientific priorities for the 2026–2027 period, and the identification of solutions to the main challenges facing the project.
The first day focused on developing strong, cohesive messages from JACARDI aimed at political leaders. Through an interactive workshop, participants worked collaboratively to identify the project’s main achievements and transform them into clear, cross-cutting and prioritised policy messages that reflect the added value of the Joint Action and serve as a basis for creating a unified European narrative.
The second day focused on the future, with sessions dedicated to defining a shared scientific vision, exploring opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer, planning a possible extension of JACARDI, and aligning communication, dissemination and the translation of scientific evidence into public policy, with the aim of strengthening the project’s visibility and influence at European level.
JACARDI: an initiative to transform prevention and care
The JACARDI project, funded by the EU4Health programme, aims to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease and diabetes at both the individual and population levels across EU countries. The initiative, coordinated by Italy’s Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), involves 76 organisations from 21 European Union countries and will run for four years, from 2023 to 2027.
Biosistemak is a co-lead partner for the health literacy task and, in collaboration with Osakidetza, is coordinating two pilot projects: one focused on improving health literacy among adolescents, and the other aimed at designing and rolling out Osakidetza’s value-based integrated care pathway for heart failure.
