We are publishing the 2025 Research Report

The document, available in Basque and Spanish, provides a clear and visual overview of our research activities, results and impact over the past year.

In 2025, we have strengthened our role as a leading institute in health systems research at regional, national and international levels, contributing to the development of the Basque Country’s health system by providing methodological expertise and scientific evidence to support innovative, more efficient, competitive and sustainable policies focused on improving people’s health and well-being.

Our team, comprising 23 professionals as of 31 December 2025, works closely with a broad collaborative network that includes more than 300 specialists from Osakidetza’s Integrated Healthcare Organisations and nearly 600 international partner organisations. This approach to networking enables us to tackle complex challenges in the healthcare system from a global, collaborative and implementation-oriented perspective.

A total of 30 research projects

The scientific activity carried out in 2025 has resulted in participation and leadership in 30 research projects, with a strong emphasis on competitive funding and international cooperation. During 2025, we participated in 10 ongoing European projects, as well as 14 projects funded by the Basque Government and 4 national projects from the Carlos III Health Institute, and we submitted 17 new proposals to competitive calls for proposals. Overall, this activity has enabled us to secure €1,039,550 in external funding.

Throughout the year, we have played a significant role in strategic initiatives at European and regional level, such as coordinating the PRISM Joint Action, focused on the prevention of mental health problems in vulnerable groups, and serving as vice-chair of the European THCS partnership, aimed at transforming health and care systems. We have also contributed to the definition of European cancer knowledge networks through the JANE strategic framework, and to the development of key policies such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation.

Our research translates into concrete actions within the healthcare system. In 2025, we supported the launch of the prostate cancer screening pilot at the Bilbao-Basurto Primary Care Organisation (OSI), the implementation of the integrated care pathway for heart failure across Osakidetza’s 13 Primary Care Organisations (OSIs), and the creation of the Erandio Local Health Network, focused on the prevention of childhood obesity. In addition, we have begun participating in projects such as HOPE4Kids, focused on paediatric palliative care in oncology, and organised the annual meeting of the JAMRAI 2 project in Bilbao, dedicated to antimicrobial resistance.

56 scientific publications

In the field of scientific output, in 2025 we achieved a total of 56 scientific publications, with a Cumulative Impact Factor (CIF) of 238.4, and we presented 21 papers at national and international conferences. These results reinforce our commitment to scientific excellence, knowledge transfer and a real impact on healthcare practice and policy.

The 2025 Scientific Report provides a concise overview of all this activity and reflects our commitment to applied, collaborative research aimed at improving healthcare and the health of the population.
