Biosistemak at the HIMSS26 Europe conference in Copenhagen
The event, held from 19 to 21 May, was attended by Marco Vinicio, a data scientist and Digital Health researcher at the Institute.
The Biosistemak Institute attended the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Europe (HIMSS26) international conference, held from 19 to 21 May in Copenhagen (Denmark), one of the leading European events in the field of digital health and the transformation of healthcare systems.
Representing the Institute was Marco Vinicio Capo, a data scientist and researcher in Biosistemak’s Digital Health research group, who attended various sessions of the conference’s scientific and technical programme as a participant.
HIMSS Europe is a leading strategic forum for sharing knowledge and experiences on the use of technology, data and innovation to improve healthcare systems. At this year’s event, the conference addressed key topics such as artificial intelligence, interoperability, cybersecurity and digital maturity, with a focus on the practical application of solutions that enable progress towards more efficient, resilient and sustainable systems.
The aim of attending the congress was to gain first-hand insight into the actual implementation strategies for the European Health Data Space (EHDS), the preparation of data for interoperability, and the governance frameworks for the secure use of artificial intelligence.
Our experience at Xt EHR@EU Data Space
During the event, various sessions focusing on the roll-out of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) were monitored, with a particular focus on the transition from regulation to actual implementation in healthcare centres. Key issues were also addressed regarding the quality and preparation of clinical data for use in artificial intelligence ( ), as well as guidelines for the healthcare sector’s adaptation to the new European Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act).
This approach is in line with the Institute’s experience within the recently completed European Xt EHR@EU Data Space project, which aimed to strengthen the interoperability and use of electronic health data in the European context, particularly in the field of cross-border telemedicine.
Furthermore, aspects related to the preparation and quality of clinical data for its application in artificial intelligence were analysed, as well as practical guidelines for the healthcare sector’s adaptation to the new European Artificial Intelligence Regulation (EU AI Act) and the governance frameworks necessary to ensure safe use in compliance with European regulations.
Participating as an attendee has enabled Biosistemak to identify global trends in digital health — particularly in the EHDS, interoperability and artificial intelligence — and to keep its strategic knowledge up to date, strengthening its ability to anticipate challenges and opportunities in the transformation of the healthcare system.
