45th Conference of the Health Economics Association
The meeting, held in Seville from 17 to 19 June, was attended by the Institute’s researcher and health economist, Borja García-Lorenzo.
Seville hosted the 45th edition of the Health Economics Association (AES) Conference from 17 to 19 June 2026, under the theme “Data, evidence, decisions: generating value for healthcare management and policy”.
Biosistemak was present once again at this leading conference in the field of health economics, in which it has participated continuously since 2010. Representing the Institute, Borja García-Lorenzo, a health economist, principal investigator of the Value-Based Healthcare research group and member of the EvaluAES group’s coordination team, presented the paper “Value-based payment: an approach based on the value equation”.
This paper addresses innovative healthcare financing models, focusing on the generation of health value and the optimisation of resources, aligning with international trends in the evaluation and governance of healthcare systems, whilst keeping the patient’s perspective in mind.
The role of data in healthcare decision-making
The AES 2026 Conference brought together professionals from research, healthcare management, public policy and industry at the University of Seville, centred on a common theme: the strategic role of data in decision-making. Against a backdrop of increasing complexity in healthcare systems, the ability to transform data into useful evidence is emerging as a key element in ensuring informed, efficient and value-driven decisions.
The 45th AES Conference addressed key issues such as the ethical use of real-world data, new regulations on health technology assessment, artificial intelligence in healthcare, the impacts of climate change and the need to generate evidence to guide healthcare decision-making, as well as equity in access to healthcare services. Collaboration between institutions, researchers and decision-makers was one of the cornerstones of the event, with the aim of moving towards more sustainable, efficient systems centred on the needs of the public.
The event in Seville represented, once again, an opportunity to share knowledge, forge alliances and continue to drive the transformation of the healthcare system through evidence and the creation of value in healthcare.
