International Women’s Day: We reinforce our commitment to equality
On 8 March, the Institute joins the institutional campaign ‘Give space to equality’, promoted by Emakunde.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Biosistemak joins the institutional appeal promoted by Emakunde, the three provincial councils and EUDEL under the slogan ‘Give space to equality‘. The campaign highlights the importance of continuing to expand the space for women’s rights in all areas of society, especially at a time when equality needs to stand firm in the face of discourses that seek to minimise or question the progress made.
In this context, the Institute reaffirms its commitment to a more just, inclusive and equitable society, integrating equality as a structural axis of its research activity and organisational culture.
A diverse, safe and inclusive working environment
With a team in which 80% of the staff are women, Biosistemak embraces equality as a core value in its daily operations. The gender perspective is incorporated into both the internal management and the research carried out by the institute, promoting safe, respectful, inclusive and discrimination-free working environments.
This commitment is also articulated through the 2022–2026 Equality Plan, a document that guides measures to guarantee real and equal opportunities, promote safe and violence-free working environments, integrate equality at all levels of the organisation and move towards a more diverse, inclusive and co-responsible work culture.
Actions planned for 2026
During 2026, Biosistemak wants to reinforce its commitment to equality with several strategic initiatives.
Firstly, this March saw the start of the female empowerment and leadership sessions, a key action to strengthen the presence and participation of women in the scientific and management fields, and to continue consolidating female role models in health research.
At the same time, the Institute has developed a Protocol against harassment and discrimination on the grounds of sex, gender, sexual orientation and LGTBI in the workplace, reinforcing the protection of all people and guaranteeing safe working spaces.
Finally, we have recently published the Inclusive Language Manual on our website, available to all staff, with the aim of promoting respectful, equal and bias-free communication.
With these initiatives, Biosistemak is helping to broaden the scope of equality and consolidate a working and social environment based on respect, shared responsibility and fairness. We thus reaffirm our commitment to continue moving towards a more just, inclusive and truly equal society, in line with the institutional message of 8 March.
