II Meeting of the Local Health Network of Erandio

The meeting, which took place on 29 May, is part of the participatory process Erandio mugitzen ari da! implemented in the European project Healh4EUKids, which focuses on the prevention of childhood obesity.

On 29 May 2025, the Merkatu Zaharra in Erandio hosted the 2nd Meeting of the Local Health Network of Erandio, a decisive step in the development of the “Action Plan 2025-2028 Erandio Mugitzen ari da! This initiative, framed within the Health4EUKids Joint Action, continues to consolidate the transformation of community environments to promote the health and well-being of the population, especially children, in the Biscayan municipality.

The meeting, promoted by Biosistemak and the Public Health Directorate of the Department of Health of the Basque Government, marked the transition from the phase of diagnosis of the situation and prioritisation of proposals to a more tactical and operational stage, focused on specifying and designing the actions prioritised in the participatory process by the key people and agents of Erandio who are part of the Local Health Network and who respond to the needs and preferences of the population.

Key actions selected

At this second meeting, which was attended by more than 40 people, work was carried out on three thematic areas that included the actions to be included in the 2025-2028 Action Plan. The prioritised areas are: :

  • Healthy food environment: actions such as the development of workshops and courses for families and young people, practical activities such as healthy breakfasts and the preparation of simple menus for the home.
  • Physical activity: activities were shared that can be carried out in actions such as the design of sports programmes for different groups, with special attention to children, youth, women’s sports and functional diversity, as well as the promotion of intergenerational physical activity.
  • Mental health and safe environments: proposals were put forward to develop awareness-raising campaigns on mental health, self-care and stigma reduction, as well as the adaptation of public and private spaces such as safe environments for group work, integrating participatory methodologies.

Implementation of the first actions

The participatory methodology and networking have enabled progress to be made in defining specific actions adapted to the real needs of the population of Erandio to tackle obesity. This process reinforces the commitment of the municipality of Erandio to the promotion of health, equity and sustainability, aligning itself with the best European practices and the experience transferred from the Good Practice ‘Grünau Moves’.

The work will continue in the coming months with the implementation of the first actions and the evaluation of their impact, boosting and promoting Erandio as a reference in innovation in community health in the Basque Country.
