Biosistemak participates in the 3rd JACARDI General Assembly held in Madrid

Researchers Yhasmine Hamu and Irati Erreguerena, and director Ane Fullaondo attended the annual assembly and the meetings of two work packages.

The Biosistemak team actively participated in the Third General Assembly of the European JACARDI project, held from 14 to 16 October in Madrid. The meeting, which brought together more than 200 representatives from 21 European countries, addressed the progress and challenges of the Joint Action focused on tackling cardiovascular disease and diabetes from different areas, with a focus on health equity, diversity and the sustainability of the interventions being implemented at European level.

As a strategic partner in the consortium, Biosistemak plays an important role in JACARDI as co-leader-leader of the work package on health literacy (WP6) together with Santé publique France, responsible for the strategy for scientific production and dissemination,  and deploying two pilots in the Basque Country in coordination with the Sub-Directorate of Primary Care of the General Directorate of Osakidetza related to health literacy and  care pathways.

Moving towards a more equitable Europe

The Assembly sessions included round tables on gender equality, data monitoring, sustainability and the future European Cardiovascular Health Plan, with the participation of representatives from the European Commission, the WHO, the EPHA and international scientific societies.

The Madrid meeting highlighted the value of joint work between countries, institutions and local teams to improve people’s health and transform systems towards more comprehensive and equitable care. Through its 143 pilot projects in 21 countries, JACARDI seeks to generate useful and adaptable knowledge for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Of particular note was the WP 6 meeting held on 16 October, coordinated by researcher Irati Erreguerena, representing Biosistemak as co-leader of the work package, alongside Mounia El Yamani-Mekrami ( Santé publique France ). The meeting, attended by more than 40 representatives, served to share the progress, barriers and facilitators of the pilots, as well as the key next steps of the working group, aimed at implementing interventions to strengthen health literacy and encourage the active participation of citizens in their own healthcare. For her part, researcher Yhasmine Hamu participated in the WP9 meeting on care pathways, contributing to the exchange of experiences and knowledge among European implementation teams.

Likewise, the work carried out by Biosistemak and the other partners reinforces the European commitment to reducing health inequalities, especially those affecting women, who still have worse outcomes in cardiovascular diseases and are under-represented in clinical research.
