Biosistemak joins the Department of Health at the final Health4EUKids assembly

The meeting, held in Finland, marks the end of the European project that has worked to promote healthy habits and prevent childhood obesity.

For three years, the Health4EUKids project has been dedicated to generating knowledge and evidence about the requirements that European Member States should consider in order to strengthen a collaborative approach to childhood obesity, thus promoting the exchange of ideas aimed at preventing it.  With the collaboration of Biosistemak and the Uribe Kosta Public Health Directorate of the Basque Government’s Department of Health, a participatory process has been implemented in the municipality of Erandio to pilot the Basque Country, inspired by the successful Grünau Moves practice (Germany).

Under the name “Erandio mugitzen ari da!”, the Biosistemak Institute, together with the Basque Government’s Department of Public Health, has provided technical support to the Erandio Town Council in the diagnosis, prioritisation and strategic design phases of the plan to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles. The result is the 2025-2028 Action Plan Erandio mugitzen ari da!, which includes the prioritised actions and activities proposed by the Erandio community to be implemented in the coming years, with the aim of improving the environment and promoting healthy habits among the population of Erandio, focusing on children.

The 2025-2028 Action Plan was presented in October this year. It is the result of a collaborative effort by the Erandio Local Health Network, which was established with the help of Health4EUKids. The plan includes several specific activities that will guide the way forward to promote the health and well-being of local residents in the coming years. To ensure the sustainability of the participatory process, Erandio Town Council has established a Technical Secretariat. This will be composed of the Director of Sports and the Head of Health at the town council, who will be the points of reference for continuing the collaborative work currently being carried out in the municipality.

Scientific session at the European Public Health Conference

The central theme of the 18th European Public Health Conference 2025, held at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, was “Investing in sustainable health and well-being”, highlighting the importance of population health as an asset for sustainable social, economic and environmental development. Biosistemak attended the scientific session “Best practices implemented in European countries to combat childhood obesity” organised by the Health4EUKids coordination team, where the work carried out within the framework of the project to promote healthy communities in Europe was shared.

The Biosistemak Institute also shared in Helsinki the communication and dissemination tasks that have been carried out within the framework of the local participatory process that has taken place in the town of Erandio, Bizkaia. Since 2023, the participatory community process “Erandio mugitzen ari da!” has been promoted, establishing measures and actions to create healthy and active environments for children aged 4 to 12 and their families. This approach focuses on nutrition, physical activity and emotional well-being from a perspective of diversity and social equality.
