Funding awarded: €102,366.00

Description: This project arose after identifying the need to systematically and continuously analyse the reality of R&D&I in health in the Basque Country, as well as to disseminate this information to the scientific community and other interested parties, increasing its institutional visibility and, above all, bringing health research and innovation activities closer to Basque society.

To respond to this need, the definition and design of a Current Research Information System (CRIS) is proposed as a key initiative for the deployment of the RIS3 Strategic Priority for Personalised Health, as it will facilitate the identification and analysis of the current context and the medium- and long-term challenges and needs in the management of health research and innovation data in the Basque Country.

In order to design and develop a plan for the future implementation of the Basque Bio CRIS (hereinafter BBC), a consortium has been set up with the key players in health R&D&I data management: IIS Biogipuzkoa, IIS Bioaraba, IIS Biobizkaia, Biosistemak and Eustat (Basque Institute of Statistics).

Objectives:

The BBC – Basque Bio Cris project is structured into four main blocks of activity, which are detailed below:

  • PT0 – Project coordination: Its main objective is the proper management of the project at the administrative, technical, relational and consortium coordination levels.
  • WP1 – Analysis of institutional CRIS initiatives: The objective is to identify, analyse and compare the different CRIS initiatives and solutions already implemented at the institutional level. Throughout this work package, we will seek to identify the best approaches and those that best fit the context of the data managed by the different Health Research Institutes in the Basque Country. In addition, we will seek to identify the main collaboration initiatives.
  • PT2 – What data does Basque Bio CRIS offer?: The objective is to determine what information should be displayed through Basque Bio CRIS.
  • PT3 – BBC design: The objective of PT3 is to design the governance model for Basque Bio CRIS, as well as a technical model specific to the platform’s infrastructure.

Expected results: The project, which is part of the complementary actions of special interest, provides a strategic framework for digital support for health research and development and is directly linked to the activities and objectives defined in the thematic area of Digital Health and Big Data in RIS3-Personalised Health. As this is a complementary action and not an individual research project, one of its aims is to promote scientific and technological cooperation in the design, planning and advice on the preparation of joint strategic R&D&I initiatives.

The main expected result of the complementary action is the design, development and deployment of the Basque Bio CRIS digital platform, which will be used to exploit the scientific R&D&I activity carried out by the Health Research Institutes of the Basque Country.
