Description: Reducing or eliminating (de-implementing) ineffective and/or harmful (i.e., low-value) medical practices has the potential to improve patient outcomes, is essential for the provision of high-quality care, and mitigates the unsustainable rise in healthcare costs in our healthcare system.

Objectives:

  1. Focus the care model on the person and on achieving health outcomes.
  2. Ensure quality performance (excellence and sustainability) of public health functions of surveillance, prevention, protection and promotion of health, responding to the health needs of the population
  3. Strengthen capacities and promote public health research to guide health policies, strategies and programmes.
  4. Advance the transfer and use of research and innovation results in improving health-related systems.

Expected results: The elimination or reduction of low-value practices such as inappropriate drug prescribing can lead to improved quality of care and outcomes in terms of population health, while reducing healthcare costs.
