Description: To establish a research infrastructure consisting of a population-based cohort in the Basque Country that is representative of the resident population, including its ethnic variability and geographical and environmental diversity.

Objectives:

  1. Organisation and implementation of the system in Álava: communication with the public and primary care professionals, sampling, recruitment of participants, registration of information, management of biological samples, training of staff caring for participants.
  2. Creation of a centre in Álava for the inclusion of the Álava population in the Basque Country cohort.
  3. To describe the baseline socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the participants in the Basque Cohort.
  4. To generate research questions that can be answered using data from the cohort: validation of PREVENT risk equations in the Basque population and creation of an ageing area.

Expected results:

– Identify dissemination, transfer and exploitation products or measures: articles, patents and others (achieved or in preparation). Include reprints of articles or other relevant references; links to electronic addresses are accepted.

– Describe the impact generated or progress made towards the expected impact in terms of: improvement in health and the functioning of the Basque healthcare system, and/or contribution to the development of the biohealth sector, value creation, and/or contribution to wealth creation in the Basque Country.
