The event, which took place at the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unavarra.es\/sites\/fac-cienciasdelasalud\/portada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Faculty of Health Sciences of the Public University of Navarre<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, brought together epidemiology and public health professionals from across Spain and internationally.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20859 size-fusion-800\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1782810185704.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Under the slogan \u201c<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reunionanualsee.org\/documentos\/ProgramaPreliminarEpi26.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moving forward with equity towards public health for the whole<\/a><\/strong><\/span> population\u201d, the conference addressed the main current challenges facing public health, such as <strong>reducing inequalities<\/strong>, disease surveillance, the impact of climate change, <strong>mental health <\/strong>and the application of new methodologies and technologies, including <strong>artificial intelligence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Research into screening and mental health<\/h3>\n<p>In this context, Biosistemak actively contributed to the scientific programme through the participation of researchers <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/itxaso-alayo-98500a55\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Itxaso Alayo<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/joneguenetxea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jone Guenetxea<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Alayo\u2019s work formed part of the panel on innovative organisational aspects of population-based screening programmes, where she presented the study <strong>\u201c<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/balance-del-piloto-de-cribado-de-cancer-de-prostata-en-euskadi-impulsado-por-biosistemak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Implementation of a pilot prostate cancer screening programme in the Basque<\/a> Country\u201d<\/span><\/strong>, focusing on the evaluation and development of more efficient and equitable early detection strategies. This pilot forms part of the European <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/eucanscreen.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EUCanScreen<\/a><\/strong><\/span> project, launched in the Basque Country in collaboration with <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biosistemak<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.osakidetza.euskadi.eus\/portada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Osakidetza<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.euskadi.eus\/gobierno-vasco\/departamento-salud\/inicio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Health<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to assess the feasibility and impact of a potential population-based prostate cancer screening programme.<\/p>\n<p>Itxaso Alayo also presented the scientific paper <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tdx.cat\/handle\/10803\/696864\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cPrediction of self-harm following psychiatric discharge in Catalonia using machine<\/a><\/strong><\/span> learning\u201d, which focused on the development and validation of predictive models for patients following psychiatric hospitalisation, highlighting the potential of <em>machine learning <\/em>to improve suicide risk assessment and support decision-making in mental health.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/foto2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20862 size-fusion-600\" 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Diagnosis of dysphagia in the Basque Country<\/h3>\n<p>For her part, Jone Guenetxea delivered a short oral presentation at the Pamplona-Iru\u00f1a meeting on the <strong>\u201cState of dysphagia diagnosis in the Autonomous Community of the Basque <\/strong>Country\u201d, in which she presented the prevalence of different types of dysphagia in a population diagnosed with head and neck cancer, from a perspective that complemented both medical diagnosis and nursing screening.<\/p>\n<p>Once again this year, the SEE-APE meeting served as a key forum for the exchange of knowledge, scientific debate and collaboration among professionals, contributing to advances in epidemiology and public health against a backdrop of growing
