The course took place in Bilbao from 13 to 15 May 2026 and brought together 40 institutional representatives, technical staff and leaders\u2014at regional, national and local levels\u2014including policymakers and professionals involved in the development or implementation of policies and programmes in sectors that influence healthy ageing and long-term care.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20365 size-fusion-800\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-800x295.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-200x74.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-300x111.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-400x147.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-600x221.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-768x283.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b-800x295.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277724905_6af3e33981_b.jpg 1023w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Representing our Institute was <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/yhasmine-hamu-azcarate-71531513a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yhasmine Hamu<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, a researcher and European project manager, who took part in this space for learning and reflection alongside a diverse group of professionals from fields such as long-term care, urban planning, housing, transport, communication and social innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The training forms part of the development of the WHO\u2019s European Strategy <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/teams\/policy-and-governance-for-health-through-the-life-course\/development-of-the-strategy--ageing-is-living\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cAgeing is Living: Promoting Health and Well-being Throughout Life (2026\u20132030)<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u201d, one of the five strategic priorities of the second <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/about-us\/our-work\/second-european-programme-of-work-2026-2030\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Programme of Work (EPW2).<\/a><\/strong><\/span> This strategy addresses the demographic challenge of the rapidly ageing population in the European Region, where people are living longer than ever before, though not always in good health, and seeks to bridge the gap between longevity and well-being by promoting longer, healthier and more equitable lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20368 size-fusion-600\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b-800x534.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277459393_af08838e81_b.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Four areas of action<\/h3>\n<p>Over the course of the three-day event, the programme combined plenary sessions, leadership panels and participatory activities aimed at strengthening leadership skills, systems thinking and the capacity for coordinated action across sectors. The sessions addressed four main areas of action: lifelong <strong>health promotion and prevention<\/strong>, the <strong>transformation of health and care systems<\/strong>, the creation <strong>of environments that facilitate healthy ageing<\/strong>, and the <strong>fight against ageism<\/strong>, promoting a balanced and positive narrative on age and ageing.<\/p>\n<p>The first day of the course concluded with an institutional reception at the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bizkaia.eus\/es\/web\/recorrido-por-palacio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bizkaia Provincial Palace<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, organised by the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bizkaia.eus\/es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bizkaia Provincial Council<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, which highlighted the shared commitment to healthy ageing as a priority for public health, social welfare and governance. Throughout the course, the importance of collaboration between public administrations, the scientific community, civil society and older people was emphasised, with a view to transforming the challenges of ageing into opportunities for well-being, social cohesion and innovation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bio-sistemak.eus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/55277456463_6d05a1b48e_b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20371 size-fusion-600\"
