\u201cChronicity in Revolution<\/strong>\u201d Conference: Innovation, Patients and Value for a Sustainable System<\/h1>\n

Our director, Ane Fullaondo, took part in the panel discussion on the implementation of innovation, sharing her views on the challenges facing healthcare.<\/h4>\n

On 7 May, Biosistemak took part in the conference \u201cChronicity in Revolution: Innovation, Patients and Value for a Sustainable<\/a><\/strong><\/span> System\u201d, held at the BAT Tower (Bilbao)<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and organised by the Basque Health Cluster<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. The event brought together representatives from the healthcare system, industry, start-ups and patient associations to reflect on the current challenges of chronicity and the role of innovation in the sustainability of the system.<\/p>\n

The Institute\u2019s Scientific Director, Ane Fullaondo<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, spoke as a panellist at Panel 2: \u201cImplementing innovation: value and sustainability of the system\u201d, where she shared Biosistemak\u2019s perspective on the needs of the healthcare system, with a focus on achieving a real impact on the care of people with chronic conditions.<\/p>\n

During the debate, key issues were addressed, such as measuring the real impact of innovation, cost as a misleading indicator compared to long-term sustainability, the role of Innovative Public Procurement, and the importance of strategic public-private partnerships. In her speech, Ane Fullaondo emphasised the need to link research, clinical practice and decision-making, to ensure that innovation delivers real value to the system and to patients.<\/p>\n

A forum for dialogue between the healthcare system, industry and patients<\/h3>\n

The conference began with an institutional opening<\/strong>, followed by the various panel discussions. The programme featured contributions from Gontzal Tamayo<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Deputy Minister of Health of the Basque Government<\/strong>, as well as I\u00f1aki Betolaza<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, from the Basque Government\u2019s Department of Pharmaceutical Access and Innovation, and Nora Ibargoyen<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, from Osteba-BIOEF, who provided the institutional perspective and insights into the evaluation of the value of health innovations.<\/p>\n

The programme included a first panel discussion focusing on the challenges of innovation in chronic care and its implementation, as well as a second panel\u2014in which Biosistemak took part\u2014dedicated to value analysis<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and the sustainability of the system.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded with a third panel dedicated to the voice of the chronic patient<\/strong>, which highlighted the need to actively involve patients in innovation, evaluation and prioritisation processes. Among others, Aitziber Marcoida<\/a><\/strong><\/span> spoke at this session,<\/a> representing the Basque Country branch<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of the Spanish Diabetes Federation (FEDE),<\/a><\/strong><\/span> focusing on the patient experience and their role in assessing the value of and access to innovations.<\/p>\n

Biosistemak\u2019s participation in this conference reinforces its commitment to applied research<\/strong>, impactful innovation <\/strong>and the continuous improvement of care for people with chronic conditions, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and value-driven healthcare system.<\/p>\n
