The Bilbao-Basurto Integrated Health Organisation (OSI) has launched a pilot programme for the early detection of prostate cancer, as part of the EUCanScreen project, in which Biosistemak is participating.<\/h4>\n

The Bilbao-Basurto OSI<\/a><\/strong><\/span> is leading a pilot study of population screening for the early detection of prostate cancer in the Basque Country. This medical test is carried out on asymptomatic individuals, with the aim of detecting diseases in their early stages and improving the effectiveness of prevention programmes. The project combines the experience of healthcare professionals with the active participation of the public.<\/p>\n

The pilot is part of the EUCanScreen Joint Action<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, co-funded by the European Union<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, which seeks to ensure the sustainable implementation of high-quality screening programmes for different types of cancer, including breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, prostate and gastric cancer.<\/p>\n

The Basque Country’s participation in EUCanScreen<\/h3>\n

Through Biosistemak, the Basque Country contributes to cross-cutting work packages by providing methodology, guidelines, monitoring and quality improvement, as well as integrating artificial intelligence into existing systems. Together with Osakidetza<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, risk-based approaches and health technology assessments are being developed to optimise screening programmes in the region.<\/p>\n

EUCanScreen<\/a><\/strong><\/span> brings together 29 partner countries, including 25 EU Member States, Ukraine, Moldova, Norway and Iceland, coordinated by the University of Latvia<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. The Basque Country’s participation helps to reduce the burden of cancer and move towards equity in prevention across Europe.<\/p>\n

Dissemination on Teknopolis (EITB)<\/h3>\n

The video “Towards less invasive medicine”, produced by the Elhuyar Foundation’s <\/a><\/strong>Teknopolis<\/a><\/strong><\/span> programme for Euskal Telebista (EITB)<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, explains clearly and accessibly how screening is carried out. The segment on prostate cancer screening begins at minute 23 <\/strong>and includes testimonials from participants and Sof\u00eda Rey <\/strong>from Osakidetza.<\/p>\n
