Inter-institute training on Health Economic Evaluation<\/h1>\n

Borja Garc\u00eda-Lorenzo, health economist and senior researcher at Biosistemak, gave the course at the BAT, which was attended by around twenty professionals from the Basque health ecosystem.<\/h4>\n

Biosistemak has held this Wednesday a specialised course on Health Economic Evaluation, given by Borja Garc\u00eda-Lorenzo, Health Economist and principal investigator of the institute’s Value-Based Healthcare (ASBV)<\/a><\/strong><\/span>research group . This activity is part of a new inter-institutional working group created between the health research institutes of the Basque Country, with the aim of promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience between healthcare research teams.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The organisation of these sessions and the exchange of knowledge are objectives set out in the 2022-2025 Health Research and Innovation Strategy<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, which seeks greater coordination between the research institutes of the Basque Health System (Bioaraba<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Biobizkaia<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Biogipuzkoa <\/a><\/strong><\/span>and Biosistemak<\/a><\/strong><\/span>), strengthening specialisation towards excellence and the needs of the health system.<\/p>\n

The training, which lasted three and a half hours, took place in a room in the Bilbao Acceleration Tower <\/strong><\/a>(BAT, in Abando) and was attended by 23 healthcare professionals, as well as research staff from the four health research institutes in the Basque Country.<\/p>\n

Course contents<\/h3>\n

The programme has covered fundamental aspects of health economic evaluation, with the aim of generating an evaluative culture as a fundamental axis for the sustainability of health systems:<\/p>\n

  • Introduction to economic evaluation<\/li>\n
  • Health outcome measures<\/li>\n
  • Resource use and costs<\/li>\n
  • Modelling<\/li>\n
  • Interpretation of results<\/li>\n
  • Uncertainty analysis<\/li>\n
  • Critical and quality assessment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Second edition in March<\/h3>\n

    Due to the high demand, Biosistemak has announced a second edition of the course, on 26 March, to accommodate those who have not been able to attend on this occasion.<\/p>\n

    Garc\u00eda-Lorenzo emphasised the importance of integrating these economic evaluation methods in research projects as well as in healthcare, providing tools and methods that can help in making more efficient decisions in the health sector.<\/p>\n

    This initiative adds to the ongoing efforts of the Basque health research institutes to promote knowledge exchange and professional development among their teams and is in line with the strategic need to advance health research and innovation in the Basque
